A Celebration of Community, One Portrait at a Time
The North Kingstown Pride Community Mural was created to celebrate the people who make our community vibrant, welcoming, and uniquely its own. During the North Kingstown Pride celebration, community members were invited to sit for a portrait as part of a living mural that reflects the diversity, strength, and spirit of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.
Every portrait became an individual work of art while also contributing to something much larger — a collective portrait of a community built on acceptance, authenticity, and belonging. This project wasn't about creating perfect photographs. It was about creating connections.
More Than a Mural
The mural served as both a public art installation and a community gathering space, inviting visitors to stop, recognize familiar faces, and meet new ones. Each portrait represents an individual, but together they tell the story of a community that values diversity, compassion, and inclusion.
Community events often last only a day, but the memories and relationships they create deserve to last much longer. This project preserves that moment in time — celebrating the courage to be yourself, the joy of gathering together, and the belief that every person has a place within the community.
