How a neighborhood of immigrants and organizers built a community that takes care of its own.
South Providence has been written off more times than its residents can count. But spend an afternoon on Broad Street and a different story emerges — one told through bakery counters, block associations, and after-school mentorship programs run out of church basements.
Over the course of a year, the Faces Project team sat down with organizers, business owners, and elders to document what actually holds this neighborhood together. What they found wasn't a single hero, but a dense web of small, stubborn acts of care.
"You can't fix a neighborhood from the outside," says organizer Maria Delgado. "You have to already live inside the problem." That belief runs through every portrait in this collection.
